The Persuaders, originating out of the Bronx, New York, some 36 years ago with it's members emerging
from the best of the top local vocal groups, consisted of lead singer Douglas 'Smokey' Scott, Willie Holland, Charles Stodghill and James Barnes. During their rapid success with their first single and album, frequent membership changes began with Stodghill and Barnes being replaced by Thomas Hill and John Tobias. Membership changes continued up until their 4th album, with the exception of Scott, who remained the only original member. He soon retired and the group eventually disbanded. Douglass 'Smokey' Scott passed away in 1994. In 1995, with the resurgence of and demand for classic R&B music, the group started up again, members now consisting of Tommy Hill, Vincent Ballard, Big Ron Cartier and Sylvester 'Jay' Jones. This being the longest same members set of Persuaders performing of all previous sets until Tommy's departure in 2001. Tommy Lee Hill passed away from Leukemia in 2002. Big Ron, Vincent and Jay continued to tour with just the three until late 2003, when, while performing in Durham, N.C. they heard this outstanding singer, Tmarvin Williams from Lancaster, PA, who had the audience screaming on their feet. Tmarvin expressed his love and respect for Classic Soul Music and would be honored to be a part of it. Tmarvin Williams is now a Persuader.
